I was appointed Vicar of the Parish of Tidenham in 2012. Prior to my appointment here I was Llandaff Diocesan Vocations Advisor and Parish Priest of Porthkerry and Rhoose in the Church in Wales. I am married to Kathy and we have one daughter. Once upon a time I was also known for doing very good impressions but that seems a long time ago now!

    Why I do it:
With Tutshill School being a Church of England school and me being the Vicar of the Parish I have the privilege of inheriting the position of Ex-officio foundation governor. However, I do also have an education background having once upon a time trained as a teacher and having worked in several schools so I am very glad to be part of the school’s governing body and the school community.

I am a registered nurse who has worked for the health service for the past 36 years. I am currently a Director of Nursing and have had a wide variety of clinical and managerial experience running large public sector organisations. I have specific expertise in performance management, strategic planning and change management, which I consider are helpful skills that can be used to assist the school and our pupils to fulfil their potential.

    Why I do it:
I have been a Governor at Tutshill C of E School since 2004 and during this time have been both chair and vice-chair of the governing body. I am also a member of the personnel committee at the school and Governor lead for maths. I became a governor as I am keen to ensure that all our children are able to have a good start in life as this has a direct effect on their future well-being.

I am a retired mathematics teacher with grandchildren of primary school age and a lifelong interest in education. In addition I was an external reviewer for the provision and teaching of mathematics in other colleges in the South East of England.

I live in Tutshill, close to the school, and take a particular interest in education both for the welfare of children and for the benefits that educational excellence can bring to the wider community. I joined the Tutshill School Governors in September 2015 and serve on the Finance and Resources Committee and the Teaching and Learning Committee. Co-opted Governor

    Interests:
I am a social anthropologist by training, and have taught in a number of universities in the UK and abroad, including the University of Wales and Bristol University. I am currently a Visiting Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at King’s College London, a Member of Wolfson College Oxford and a Fellow of the Royal Anthropological Institute. Alongside teaching and research I have considerable administrative and managerial experience within Higher Education; skills that I can use in my role as a school governor. I have been involved with the field of adoption for many years, and was for a while Vice Chair of the St David’s Children’s Society Adoption Panel in Cardiff and member of the BAAF Research Committee in London.

    Why I do it:
I have been an active member of Tidenham Parish since moving to the area in 2003, and for many years helped out with Sunday School. I have been a Parish Councillor since 2014 and joined the Tutshill School Governors in September 2015. I am committed to trying to ensure that children are able to access an education that develops the whole person, and not just their cognitive ability, and that school is a happy and positive experience for all pupils. I have a particular remit for Year Three and PHSCE.

  • Mrs Sarah Jane Gilchrist

    Local Authority Governor

    Occupation: Nurse

    Interests:
Having originally trained and worked as a nurse, I have managed to work for most of our postings, wherever we lived. I also took the opportunity to both run my own business, and a military charity which funded holidays for service children with special needs. I am very aware that the early years of any child’s education is vital; creating the environment to encourage learning and to make the most of the opportunities available is something I think is incredibly important.

    Why I do it:
I have been settled in Tidenham for the majority of the past 14 years having previously traveled all over the world as a service child and then wife. Now that I have more time on my hands, I want to put something back into the community.

  • Mr Gavin Foxall

    Parent Governor
